Michigan Federal District Courts
The federal courts are empowered to decide the constitutionality of federal laws, to resolve disputes arising under federal laws, and to resolve disputes between residents of different states under certain circumstances.

Michigan Supreme Court is the state's court of last resort and meets in the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing, Michigan.
Michigan Circuit Courts
Circuit Courts have the broadest powers in Michigan. It handles all civil cases with claims of more than $25,000 and all felony criminal cases where, if found guilty, the defendant could be sentenced to prison. Michigan District Courts
District Courts are courts of limited jurisdiction in the State of Michigan. They handle most traffic violations, civil disputes seeking money damages up to $25,000, landlord-tenant disputes and criminal cases in which the defendant is charged with a misdemeanor that is punishable by not more than one-year imprisonment.
