As a licensed mediator in the State of Michigan I am here to help you communicate effectively and to aid your efforts to resolve your conflict. By taking an active role in discussing your dispute reaching a mutual resolution is possible.
How does it work?
Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process with only the parties involved in the dispute present. As your mediator, I will not be taking sides, making recommendations or decisions. And even though I am an attorney, I will not be giving legal advice or guidance during this process. Instead, I will be focusing on a facilitative model of mediation which means I will be helping the parties work together to reach an agreement. This process exists for your benefit so each party will have an opportunity to share their perspective on the situation, propose solutions and create an agreement together that meets your needs.
Once an agreement has been made I will draft a mediation agreement that both parties will sign. The agreement functions as a contract and if one party fails to uphold its end of the deal you are free to come back and try mediation again or proceed with a formal law suit.
Does everyone sit in the same room together?
Yes and no. This depends entirely on what you are comfortable with. I always like to start with everyone together, but if one or both parties wishes to meet separately we can do that as well.
Are there any rules in mediation?
Yes. In order to have productive discussions together there are some ground rules. I respectfully ask the following:
How long does mediation take?
The mediation process can typically be concluded in one session, but sometimes adjournment and more time is necessary in order to gather more information or consult with outside experts in an effort to help us move forward.
What is the fee?
My mediation fee is $300 per hour with a deposit of 3 hours paid up front.
